Paying Binance Fees with BNB: How the Discount Actually Works

The BNB fee discount is 25% on spot but only 10% on USDⓈ-M futures, and nothing at all on COIN-M. Here is how to switch it on, verify it and decide whether holding BNB is worth it.

Paying Binance Fees with BNB: How the Discount Actually Works

Switching on BNB fee payment reduces your Binance trading fee, but not by the same amount everywhere. On spot the reduction is 25%. On USDⓈ-M futures it is 10%. On COIN-M futures there is no BNB discount at all.

That difference is the single most misunderstood thing about this feature. Traders enable it expecting a quarter off their futures costs and get a tenth.

Comparison of Binance fee rates with and without BNB payment across spot and USDⓈ-M futures

Figures checked in August 2026 against Binance's published fee schedule. Discount rates and eligibility change; confirm the current numbers in your account.

What the discount does to each rate

Market Standard Paid in BNB Reduction
Spot 0.100% 0.075% 25%
USDⓈ-M futures, maker 0.020% 0.018% 10%
USDⓈ-M futures, taker 0.050% 0.045% 10%
COIN-M futures 0.020% / 0.050% unchanged none

On a 1,000 USDT spot round trip, that is roughly 2 USDT falling to about 1.5 USDT. On a 10,000 USDT futures position opened and closed with market orders, it is about 10 USDT falling to about 9 USDT.

Turning it on

  1. Open the fee or account settings section and find the BNB fee deduction toggle.
  2. Enable it for the markets you actually trade — spot and futures can be separate switches.
  3. Hold enough BNB in the wallet the deduction draws from.
  4. Place one small trade and check the result before assuming it is active.

Step 4 matters. If the BNB balance is too low to cover the deduction at the moment of execution, the fee is simply charged the normal way at the full rate, with no warning on the order ticket.

Verify it in trade history

Open Order History, select a filled order and read the Fee column. Two things confirm the discount is live:

  • the fee asset is BNB rather than the traded asset or the quote currency;
  • the effective rate matches the reduced figure, not the standard one.

If the asset column shows something other than BNB, the discount did not apply to that fill.

The part that is not free

You have to hold BNB, and BNB has its own price. That creates a position you did not choose as a trade:

  • If BNB falls while you hold it for fee deduction, the loss can exceed everything the discount saved.
  • The balance depletes as it is consumed, so it needs topping up, and each top-up is itself a trade with a fee.
  • Holding BNB to reach a VIP tier threshold is a separate decision with a much larger balance requirement.

A rough test: multiply your monthly traded volume by the reduction you would gain. At 100,000 USDT of monthly spot volume, 25% of 0.10% is about 25 USDT a month. Then ask whether you are comfortable holding enough BNB to cover that, at BNB's own risk, to save that amount.

For a low-volume account the answer is often no. For an active trader it usually is yes, and the BNB balance turns over quickly enough that price exposure stays small.

When it does not pay off

  • You trade COIN-M futures — the discount does not exist there.
  • You trade rarely, so the saving is a few USDT a month against holding an asset you do not want.
  • You are already on a zero-fee or promotional pair, where there is nothing to discount.
  • Your region does not offer the feature; availability varies.

How it stacks with everything else

BNB payment is one of three routes to a lower effective rate, and they combine rather than compete:

  • a benefit attached to the account at sign-up;
  • the fee asset, covered here;
  • maker execution, which only helps once your tier separates maker and taker — see maker vs taker fees.

⚠️ Discount rates and regional availability were checked in August 2026 and can change. Holding BNB carries market risk. Not investment advice.
